Every culture has its burdens, and it always seems that the women suffer more. The plight for the women in my family is the necessity of knowing each and every type of hair removal. Do not get me wrong, I love the long dark lashes, and the thick shiny hair. But, the price for those small beauties is a small fortune in tweezers, razors, bleach, wax strips, and the latest craze–threading. Word of advice: There is no such thing as painless removal. Unless you’re rich enough to invest in permanent hair removal from lasers, you will be spending lots of time and energy in the quest for smooth skin. There was a recent study that identified the Danish as the happiest people on earth. Well, sure they are. With all that blond hair, they have plenty of free time to enjoy life and not worry if a mustache has sprouted.
Different Type of Hair Loss
The telogen stage occupies more than the usual number of follicles in a patient with TE. As a result, less follicles are able to be in the actively growing anagen phase. The imbalance in the growth cycle caused by TE results in the patient shedding hair faster than it is being replaced with provillus. Shedding can be rapid or gradual depending on the type of TE, but patients never by completely bald. Patients will recover fully upon successful treatment or removal of the trigger.
A brief but strong environmental stressor may trigger short term TE; a form characterized by aggressive shedding generally lasting no longer than six months. Symptoms are noticeable one to two months after the triggering event, and normal density will return within a year.
A long term stressor can result in chronic TE. Follicles will shift from anagen to telogen at a normal rate, but they will not return to anagen. Symptoms will take longer to notice in this form of TE as patients will not experience an increased rate of shedding.
